‘From listening to records we just knew what to do…’
In 2008, ten musicians decided to take on the impossible idea of recreating DJ Shadow’s seminal ‘Endtroducing‘ album. A seemingly unplayable masterpiece created entirely from samples, the band’s mission was to play the whole album live, note for note, on real instruments – guitars, bass, organs, keys, sax, cello and mindbending drums. Leaving crowds awe-struck, Introducing went on to sell out shows at The Jazz Café, Koko and subsequently all over the country. Festival shows across Europe soon followed, with critics praising the project’s uniqueness and musicianship.
Following ‘Endtroducing‘, the band approached Mr. Scruff in order to recreate the Ninja Tune artist’s classic tracks. More recently, their third project saw them take on Daft Punk’s timeless ‘Discovery’, climaxing in a live Radio 1 performance in 2014. This saw 38 Daft Punk tunes played in only 5 minutes for the first completely live Annie Mac Minimix – still one of the most listened to Minimixes on Radio 1’s Soundcloud.
So what next for Introducing? Back to where it all began of course.
2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of ‘Endtroducing’ in 1996. To honour this auspicious occasion, IntroducingLive will return to where it all started by recreating DJ Shadow’s classic album like never before.
On April 15th 2016, Introducing return to the scene of their first ever club gig – the Cowley Road in Oxford to recreate Endtroducing once again. Fans of DJ Shadow and connoisseurs of ‘Endtroducing’ will not want to miss this.
