Out To Graze Festival 2011: We have moved site!

As many of you may know, after several stressful weeks of wrangling, various issues with our Warmington site have led to us taking the decision not to run OTG there this year…

BUT FEAR NOT. We have found an even more stunning site!

Fawsley ParkWe have found a fabulous new site not too far away from the original site, on the grounds of Fawsley Park, some of the most incredible open space in the Midlands. The site boasts stunning ancient trees, is grade 2 listed parkland, with the ruin of an ancient dower house which will form the centre piece of the event. We think this is the perfect location for Out To Graze, is a site we can really see settling into for the future, and hope you guys are looking forward to it as much as we are. Click here to view details on the new site.

Out To Graze Comp: Free Tickets, Beer & A Guy Called Gerald Album!

In recognition of the site move, we are running a comp over the weekend… deadline is Monday 20 Jun. Win a pair of tickets for Out To Graze Festival 2011, 2 signed copies of A Guy Called Gerald‘s latest album – ‘Tronic Jazz The Berlin Sessions’ and a crate of free beer for the festival. Saturday Night in the Bedouin: The Out To Graze Wedding Disco!

As a light alternative to the main stages on Saturday night, we are currently putting together the Out To Graze Wedding Disco. The Reverend Jack Manhattan will be hosting alongside a host of proven wedding DJ talent, and, we are very pleased to announce veterans of the wedding circuit, ‘The Hips’ bringing their live soul, funk and disco extravaganza to the Bedouin stage.

Saturday Fancy Dress Announced… Charity Shop Chic!

Everyone likes to get dressed up at a festival and instead of having a specific fancy dress theme we came up with the idea of ‘Charity Shop Chic’. It’s a great way of supporting good causes and giving the crowd the chance to go hunting around in their local charity shops to get really creative. At the end of the event everyone is encouraged to leave their fancy dress which can be donated back. It enables the festival to put some extra money through the tills of these shops and hopefully we’ll get some outrageous outfits too! There will be prizes on the day.

What’s going on this year?

2011 is going to be our biggest event to date, it’s been an amazing journey to get this point from a little field just outside Oxford. This year we’re pulling out all the stops with walk about theatre acts, installation arts and plenty of…well randomness! The Out to Graze olympics will be making a return to Out to Graze 2011 so expect splat the rat, china shop shy, tug o war and many more. We’ll be seeking the ultimate Olympics champion so you better get in training now!

After all it’snot just about music and over the next few weeks we’ll be letting you guys know eactly how we intend to keep you all entertained for 72 hours straight.

Food and Burlesque Cafe

We’re very excited to welcome Boudoir Bliss in to the OTG family. These guys have been seen taking the festival scene by storm appearing at events like Secret Garden and Boomtown fair. The girls will be bringing their amazing array of Morrocan fusion food as well as hearty lineup of Burlesque dancers, DJ’s and acoustic artists. We’re kinda excited about the cafe and think it’s going to be an amazing addition to the festival…make sure you get down there and grab yourself some food.

Scorching live ska, a DJing pensioner and even the possibility of some free rum. Not bad for a fiver!

THE LEGENDARY DJ DEREK
In a career spanning more than 40 years, DJ Derek has become a globe-trotting reggae phenomenon, influencing fellow Bristolians MASSIVE ATTACK and even starring in DIZZEE RASCAL’s recent video ‘Dirtee Disco’. Such has been his popularity on dancefloors the world over, he was able to quit his job as an accountant in the mid-seventies to earn his living in clubland ever since.

Though he should have retired years ago, his appearances at the likes of The Big Chill, Glastonbury and Bestival have added to his iconic status, and the reggae grandaddy’s services are in demand more than ever. A resident at Skylarkin’ Oxford for the past seven years, it’s no underestimation to say that this man has given us some of the best nights of our lives. Expect an inimitable mix-up of reggae, ska, soul, rock n roll, and vintage jump-jive hepcat sleaze.

THE NINE TON PEANUT SMUGGLERS
A regular fixture at Skylarkin’ nights ever since they formed at the beginning of 2005, The Nine Ton Peanut Smugglers are now one of the best purveyors of authetic live ska, rhythm & blues and and caribbean boogaloo in the UK. The seven piece released their debut LP ‘Drop Some Leg’ in 2010 on Alopecia Records to widespread acclaim and tonight mark the launch of a new double-A side 45, ‘What I Gotta Do/The Clinch’ on French label String Rabbit. Not to be missed!

COUNT SKYLARKIN
More bounce from The Count, fresh from an April that saw him sharing decks with Trojan Soundsystem, Aba-Shanti-I and David ‘Ram-Jam’ Rodigan. Featuring all, some or none of his acclaimed remix collaborations with Harvey K-Tel.

Loads of great stuff happening this weekend. I’m biased but I strongly recommend the following!

www.londoninternationalskafestival.co.uk

********

GOOD FRIDAY… I’m spinning rockabilly, jump blues and other assorted treats alongside The Bikini Beach Band at The Book Club in East London (the place where we do The Big Ten Inch):

********

SATURDAY… will be a belter – myself and Trojan Soundsystem’s Earl Gateshead playing reggae, rocksteady, dancehall, hip hop, jungle, disco, soul, rock n roll and anything else we like the sound of at Notting Hill Arts Club:

********

EASTER SUNDAY… Join myself and Earl as we get serious in Shoreditch with 10,000 kilowatts of ABA-SHANTI-I dubwise selections without objection!

www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=197956033555784

This will be big – heavy, heavy roots and dub reggae sounds on the decks, plus The Blood Shanti Band performing live. Only eight quid in advance too, we must be mad.

My Oxford Tube pass is going to be taking a battering! Hope to catch a few of you along the way. Have a great weekend whatever you’re getting up to.

EASTER SUNDAY AT FAVELA CHIC: A REAL ROOTS REGGAE BONANZA!

Earl Gateshead & Count Skylarkin proudly present:

ABA SHANTI-I (full soundsystem show)
True stalwarts on London’s soundsystem scene, Aba Shanti-I have been playing, making, producing and presenting roots reggae music right across the past three decades. Mainman Aba started out as the MC for Jah Tubby’s before heading his own system with his brothers, Blood Shanti and Shanti Roots. They’ve been rocking the Carnival corners of South Row and East Row since 1994, not to mention their long-running and phenomenally popular University Of Dub events.

BLOOD SHANTI and the SHANTI ITES
Live onstage – dubwise excursions from the house band at Falasha Recordings. Serious riddim!

EARL GATESHEAD (Trojan Soundsystem)
Trojan Soundsystem linchpin Earl Gateshead began DJ’ing in Brixton in 1979. He is well known in London for his 20 year residency at The Dive Bar in London’s Chinatown and his Saturday residency at the Blue Note club. He has worked as selector and MC with Cutty Ranks, Big Youth, Dr Alimantado and Dennis Alcapone. His reggae nights at Plastic People are legendary.

COUNT SKYLARKIN
A selector since the mid-nineties, Count Skylarkin really made his name when he moved to Oxford in 2000, guesting with local crews Addis Ababa, Cornerstone and Arawak before going on to perform alongside Jamaican legends such as Alton Ellis, Max Romeo, The Skatalites, Dawn Penn, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, The Wailers (UK tour DJ) and numerous others. Recent years have seen him take his love of rocksteady, reggae, ska and dancehall to festivals all over the UK and Europe.

plus:
MC BEN CUTTER & VIBESMAN POOKIE
