Ever since LAID BLAK first played a sold-out Cellar back in May, you’ve been asking when they’re coming back. Well the time is almost at hand! ARRIVE EARLY – this will be roadblock.

We first came across the excellent LAID BLAK last year when they supported The Wailers on their UK tour. Now signed to Tricky’s BrownPunk label, the Bristolian seven-piece have scored a massive underground hit with their single ‘RED’ (and a myriad of remixes), earning rave reviews and constant rotation on BBC 1Xtra, Choice and Kiss FM. Live, the expanded line-up span roots reggae, ska, dancehall, jungle, dubstep and hip-hop – with their heads in the bass bins and feet firmly on the dancefloor. Featuring the superhuman talents of:

Joe Peng – Lead Vocalist
DJ Bunjy – Producer / DJ
Flex – MC/Singjay
Bar – Guitar
Lupo – Bass Man
Daddy Rich – Drums
TJ the Doctor – Keys

If you missed them the last time, don’t miss them this time. Ridiculously good.

Not to mention…!

DJ WRONGTOM

Duppy Writer, Wrongtom’s long-awaited collaborative LP with Roots Manuva, is finally out this weekend! Expect to hear plenty of bass-bothering badness and one or two exclusives.

“I was very lucky to be born when I was. When I was about eleven there was a tune out called ‘My Mothers Eyes’, by a black American singer called Nellie Lutcher. For some reason it stuck in my head. It was the quality of the voice, the quality of the piano playing. You didn’t really get black American music on the BBC. Then I discovered the American Forces Network and I heard Ray Charles…”

Skylarkin’ Soundsystem at The Big Chill House is officially back on the map. Last session was a stormer. Can it actually get better? Let’s ask The Legendary DJ Derek!

DJ DEREK
http://vimeo.com/1758371
Once an accountant and part-time washboard player, DJ Derek has been playing black and Caribbean music to audiences all over the country (and latterly, the world!) since the sixties. Along the way he’s become a reggae icon, influence…d Massive Attack and (more recently) compiling his favourite tracks from the last 40 years for Trojan Records.

THE DROP (LIVE)

Booming basslines, rocking roots and culture and extra echo-chamber from this London seven-piece we discovered at Secret Garen Party.

Friday’s gig at the Arts Club is the first time I’ll have played there, and promises to be a real cracker.

The coming weeks also see me calling in at The Big Chill House, Southampton Orange Rooms, The Big Ten Inch, Shambala, Notting Hill Carnival, Outlook Festival in Croatia… and warming up for The Wurzels at Bampton Village Festival. You read that correctly.

More bounce,

**Count Skylarkin
